The Child

“This path is long,” Blane says. “When will we see the stone child?”

“It is just past this big rock,” Jade says.

They go past the rock. The rock juts onto the path. The path stops.

There is a stone shelf, but there is no stone child.

“Gosh, where is the child? He was here when I last came. Did they take him? Did they sell him?” Jade says as she picks rocks off the shelf.

“We must find him. He could have had rocks fall on him. Help me pick up rocks. Let us find him,” Jade says.

“You will not find me in the rocks,” a child says.

Blane shines his cave hat on the top of the big rock. He and Jade see a child on top of the rock.

Jade shines her cave hat on the child. She stops. She can not think what to say.

“Did you see the stone child?” Blane asks. “I would like to see him. My big sis wants to find him.”
